Neptune LSM - Lunar Simulator Module

LUNAR SIMULATOR MODULE :: LSM

WANT TO MORE ACCURATELY SIMULATE THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUR TANK INHABITANTS?

Moonlight in the ocean is believed to be as significant as the time spent in full daylight. Moonlight triggers various internal and external biological activities among the many thousands of reef organisms. Many corals continue to grow under moonlight conditions and for some fish and coral it is important for the reproductive process. Also, night predators come out and cruise, while prey go into hiding.

The other benefit of moonlights is that it extends the time you can enjoy your aquarium and in a totally different way. We all like to go to our tank with a flashlight and see whats going on, but it can often startle many creatures and send them into hiding. With a moonlight, your tank has just enough light for you to see many of the fascinating things going on in the aquarium after the main lights go down.

MOON CYCLES ARE ACCURATELY SIMULATED

With the Apex and the LSM – Lunar Simulator Module, you can load in the entire year’s lunar cycle data and your moonlight LED will dim and brighten according to the true lunar cycle. This has been shown to benefit spawning cycles in some tank organisms.

Neptune Salinity Module PM2 Neptune Salinity Module PM2

Salinity Module :: PM2

Real-time Monitoring of Salinity in Your Aquarium

Maintaining consistent salinity in your aquarium is key to the well being of every organism inside it. And, as busy as we sometimes are, we don’t even realize our parameters are out of whack until it’s too late. With this module, your Apex will be constantly monitoring the Salinity in your tank and will let you know the minute it is trending outside of the safety zone.

There is an added bonus, you get an extra temperature port as well as six I/O switch inputs for use on ATO, feed buttons, leak alarms or whatever else you may come up with.

Salinity varies with water temperature. This extra temperature port is extra important because, when used, it is coupled with the conductivity probe’s value to calculate the most accurate real-time salinity measurement possible

Neptune Dissolved Oxygen Module PM3 Neptune Dissolved Oxygen Module PM3

Dissolved Oxygen Module:: PM3

Real-time Monitoring of Dissolved Oxygen in Many Aquariums is a Great Safety Net

Many marine aquarists only give the oxygen content in their aquarium water a passing thought, not fully understanding how the level of the Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in their tanks can affect their entire tank population.

In one way or another, everything (fish, invertebrates, corals, algaes, bacteria) in the oceans and in marine aquariums react with oxygen. Most of the living beings of this planet require oxygen in order to metabolize nutrients. Fish, invertebrates, corals, and bacteria ingest O2 and expel CO2 day and night.

Your critters are not the only things that use oxygen in your tank. Organic materials (i.e. Dissolved Organic Compounds, uneaten food and fish detritus on the bottom of the tank) consume a lot of oxygen as they break down. And now it’s even popular to add nitrifying bacteria additives which multiply very rapidly, consuming a large portion of the available oxygen in the tank water.

Of all the organisms in your aquarium, large fish are the most acutely at risk to low O2 levels. In some situations with heavily loaded systems, simply the failing of a skimmer can bring the O2 levels down to dangerous levels and cause a chain-reaction fish die-off . This is where the PM3 Dissolved Oxygen module comes to the rescue.

Energy Bars

SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A POWERSTRIP

The Energy Bars available for our Apex systems are much more than a glorified power strip. In fact, this component of your aquarium controller equipment is far more important than most people realize – and not all systems are created equal!

It is obvious that this component is key to controlling things on your aquarium, but what is not so apparent is how it is critical to preventing catastrophe in your aquarium. Here’s how.

REPLACE

LET’S START WITH CONSTRUCTION

We have put a lot of thought into the construction of our Energy Bars. Unlike our competitors and simple power strips, our Energy Bars are made out of 16 gauge, powder-coated aluminum.

They are built to be bullet proof – almost literally! Sure, like our competitors we could have gone with a slick, inexpensive plastic enclosure, but that would not provide you with the best protection against catastrophic failure. You see, plastic timer powerstrips and power bars used by some of our competitors can easily catch fire should saltwater enter them and cause a short. With our solid metal Energy Bars, if such a short did occur, it would be far less likely to spread to the tank or your home.

REPLACE

CURRENT SENSING DEVICE

The Energy Bars continually send their information on their present current drain to the Apex controller. This is incredibly useful information for a number of reasons.

First, it enables you to recognize what the overall power consumption is on any Energy Bar so that you can better distribute the load across your multiple Energy Bars. Also by having this feature you can accurately determine the power utilization of your tank to compare different lights, pumps, skimmers, etc. (Not available on Energy Bar 6)

REPLACE

CONTROLLED OUTLETS

Each of the independently controlled outlets on the Energy Bar are independently switched and easily carry the current load specified on the label. In fact, we intentionally underrate our outlets just to provide that extra level of security.

So, depending on which Energy Bar you purchase, each outlet is rated from 5A to 10A at 120V AC or 8A on our 240V European model.

REPLACE

SOFT-START EXTENDS THE LIFE OF PUMPS

Imagine revving the engine in your car and dropping the shifter from P to D. That is exactly what happens when many controllers turn on the power to your pumps. Just like in a car, this kind of instantaneous application of power to your return pump after a feed cycle or to your power heads will certainly lead to early failure. With the Energy Bar, power is slowly ramped on so that every motor is safely brought up to speed without the damaging torque.

POWER-FAILURE DETECTION, COMMUNICATION ERROR PROTECTION AND PRE-PROGRAMMED FAILSAFE STATE

Each Energy Bar outlet can be configured to be either in an off or on state if the power were to fail and then come back on or if there was a communication failure with the Apex base unit. This means that if, for instance, your heater was on when the power went off, you could have it programmed to be off until control was reestablished with the Apex base unit. Or, as another example, you could program your main return pump to always be in the on position in case of failure.

This feature is very important as many other controllers on the market may leave the outlet in its last position or possibly default all of the outlets to off or on. This is even true if they simply lose communication with their base unit due to a system failure, software bug, communication issue, lightning strike, etc. Not good. Imagine if you were away from home and a storm took out your Apex – the Energy Bar would just fall back to the Failsafe state you had programmed for such an incident. No worries.

One additional advanced feature is that when you use an additional Energy Bar on a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) you can have key lifesaving devices (low power power heads and bubblers) on there that will automatically go into their Failsafe State once power failure is detected. This can keep your tank alive and healthy for hours on a good UPS until the power comes back online. This will run completely unattended and is ideal to give you peace of mind when you are away from home whether out for the evening or on a two-week cruise!

It is easy to see the importance of this one small feature that differentiates the Neptune Systems Energy Bars from the rest and how once again Neptune Systems is looking out for every possible way for you to avoid catastrophe in your aquarium.

EXTRA AQUABUS CONNECTIONS

Each Energy Bar has additional connectors so that you can easily expand to other modules. This is very helpful for those that want to use one Apex to control multiple aquariums. The Energy Bar becomes an AquaBus “hub” at any location you choose – allowing you to connect more modules in that area. This is called a “star topology” and is unique to the Apex. Many other controllers require you to daisy chain together every module or they require you to buy a separate “hub” to connect everything together.

Neptune WAV Neptune WAV

WAV™ :: EXTREME FLOW FOR YOUR AQUARIUM

A POWERHEAD THAT ANSWERS ALL YOUR NEEDS

  • Extreme flow (~4000+ gph)
  • Compact size (less total mass compared to nearly all similar flow pumps)
  • Directional flow (pivots with 40 degree range of motion and can be rotated – great for rear wall use)
  • Safe, 24V DC operation
  • Low power consumption – Less than 35w at the wall
  • Multiple operational modes (random flow modes, mirror, inverse, etc.)
  • Easy to clean (pump automatically shuts off when removed from water)
  • Incredibly Quiet (possibly the quietest driver on the market)
  • Magnetic mount works on up to 1″ glass (in a class by itself)
  • Easy installation with just a single skinny wire for all power and control (1LINK interface makes it a snap!)
  • Competitively priced (In USA just $199.95 for one WAV, $499.95 for the WAV Starter Kit)

DIRECTIONAL FLOW ALLOWS STEALTH MOUNTING OPTIONS

Unfortunately, some of the leading water moving pumps on the market only send flow in a direction perpendicular to the glass. This really limits an aquarists options and, in some cases, obstructs the view. Having a powerhead that can be pointed in all directions is nothing new, but the hardware to make that happen usually takes up too much space and is unsightly. The WAV answers both of these problems with a new take on an articulating mount.

Through research we found that most customers usually never need to point their pump at extreme angles – usually 20 degrees one direction or another is enough. This is the approach we took with the WAV. With its innovative, low-profile magnetic mount, you get up 40 degree range of motion on the pivot and then the entire pump rotates 360 degrees. This provides so many more options than flow that coming straight out from the side or back of the aquarium. Imagine mounting the WAV on the back side glass or even the back wall, set an angle, and kicking the flow off the side or front glass. You get the flow where you need it and you stop blocking the beautiful side views of your aquarium!

ENDLESS FLOW OPTIONS FOR EVERY AQUARIST

We know that everyone likes their flow a little bit different. So Apex Fusion controls the WAV with a multitude of patterned flow and random settings. You can even set one or more pumps to mirror or be the inverse of another.

The easy to use Apex Fusion scheduling graph makes it a snap to set up huge waves in the morning, stir up detritus in the afternoon, and slow the flow at night. The flow in your aquarium can be as unique as your favorite coral!

DETAILED, REAL-TIME PUMP STATUS AND AI

This is a first for this product segment. From within Apex Fusion, the details of operation of every WAV on your tank can be observed. You will be able to see the mode, the RPM, the temperature range, and the current status of the pump.

Apex Fusion takes this one step further. It monitors your pump parameters, and then based on its AI it takes corrective action such as stopping the pump and sending alerts to you by text or email when the pump is malfunctioning.

SNAILS, FALLS, STALLS – NO WORRIES!

Snails and other obstructions are usually a powerhead’s worst enemy – tearing it to pieces. Sometimes just knocking a pump off the glass will not only kick up sand all over the tank, but it can also destroy the pump, or worse your favorite corals.

Most pumps cannot even tell when they are out of water – cavitating furiously when doing a simple water change – or spinning themselves to ruin. The WAV has advanced sensors that dramatically reduce these events from occurring. Even taking the pump out of water for a cleaning does not require it to be powered down – it senses the condition and turns off!

SAY GOODBYE TO CABLE MESS

1LINK™ – EASY, ONE-CLICK INSTALLATION

The WAV is the first of a line of aquarium products from Neptune Systems that will use a completely new interface. While many in the aquarium world continue to embrace wireless technologies for interconnectivity, we have decided to go the other direction – a wire.

Wireless connectivity from your smartphone or tablet to your Apex (or other controller) is completely logical – and we embrace that. However, wireless used for the interconnecting of devices within the confines of common aquariums (that are mostly less than 6′ long) is not only unnecessary, but it reduces reliability.

Our philosophy is that when distances are measured in a few feet, wireless is a solution looking for a problem. And ironically, wireless really does not save wires. You still need to use a wire to get power to the devices anyway. And let’s not forget configuration – wireless devices require syncing, endless button presses and arcane steps to get them to connect up. Finally for all this “benefit”, you as the consumer get the added cost of this wireless technology that must be baked into the price of every device you buy.

SIZE MATTERS WHEN IT COMES TO PUMP WIRE

When it comes to any powerhead pump, the smaller the wire, the better – the easier it is to hide. This is true both inside as well as outside the aquarium. Some pumps put the wire and motor on the outside of the aquarium and claim that this has a better aesthetic – but there still is a wire. Many other manufacturers’ cables have a much larger diameter, some nearly 3x the mass.

ENTRY LEVEL MONITORING AND CONTROL

The Apex Jr. System the perfect option for those that want to have the basic functions of a controller like light and temperature control but have a smaller budget. But the beauty of the Apex Jr. is that you don’t have to sacrifice many of the cool features of the more expensive Apex controllers such as Internet connectivity, phone and SMS alerts, over-temperature protection, mobile phone and tablet access and much more.

THE APEX JR. – IT ALL BEGINS WITH THE BRAIN

The Apex Jr. is far different than from what any other controller at this price level is offering. The Apex Jr. is basically a small computer whose only job is take care of your aquarium. It has a 32-bit microprocessor and a built-in web server. The web server makes it possible for your to configure and operate your Apex from any network-connected computer or mobile device – no software to install on a PC – it also means it’s Mac compatible!

The Apex Jr. runs at up to 10x the speed of other controllers in its class due to its advanced processor technology (most others use 8 or 16 bit microcontrollers). It also has memory on board to store over a month’s worth of complete tank data in non-volatile RAM. Even with a power outage, your tank history and all configurations are safe.

BUILT IN INTERNET CONNECTIVITY

The Apex Jr. is Internet-ready straight out of the box. Just plug it into your router and you are good to go – no software to install! This means that you can control your tank from any computer (or mobile device) in the house. There is no need, ever, to connect it directly to a computer to monitor your aquarium or update its firmware. And, once you set up external access via port-forwarding on your router, you can easily access your Apex from anywhere in the world via a web browser or via our iOS or Android apps!

And, with Internet Connectivity, the Apex Jr.can be configured so that you will get an email or text message whenever something is not quite right with your system – whether that is an over-temperature condition in your tank, the pH is out of whack, or there’s a leak on the floor!

BEST SOFTWARE AVAILABLE ON ANY AQUARIUM CONTROLLER

Hands down, the Apex has the most feature-rich, field tested software of any controller on the market today. It all starts with the onboard web server inside the Apex Base Unit. This web server is part of the Apex’s firmware and is truly the secret sauce to it’s success.

NOT TECH SAVVY, NO WORRIES

Built-in wizards allow even the most technophobic person out there to be able to program the basics like light timers and heater control in a matter of minutes. Then, as you build up confidence and engage the awesome Apex Community Forum, you will be taking it to the next level in no time.

UBER REEF GEEK, WE HAVE YOU COVERED

The Apex has a powerful yet easy to learn programming language. This enables every user to get creative and come up with new cool ways to use their Apex…from creating storms in their tanks, to complex dosing of additives, to unique mixing of colors on their DIY LED lights. The possibilities are pretty much only limited by your imagination. And again, the Apex Community Forum is out there to help you along as well.

GRAPHS, GRAPHS, GRAPHS!

The Apex has a full-featured graphing engine built right in. As an example, you can very easily compare the cycles of your outlets with temperature and pH, identify ongoing patterns of trouble, and even discover ways to cut costs like being able to visually see when two external devices (such as a heater and a chiller) are on simultaneously when they really shouldn’t be.

GOING MOBILE? THE APEX DID!

The Apex is the only controller on the market that has manufacturer-written, full-featured applications for the computer browser (Mac or PC), iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets (currently available as a beta). Now you can take your Apex with you anywhere and check in on your tank, reprogram your lights, or even feed your fish remotely from the touch of your phone!

THE ENERGY BAR – SO MUCH MORE THAN A POWER STRIP!

The Apex Jr. is so much more than a glorified power strip. In fact, this component of your aquarium controller equipment is far more important than most people realize – and not all controller systems are created equal!

It is obvious that this component is key to controlling things on your aquarium, but what is not so apparent is how it is critical to preventing catastrophe in your aquarium. Here’s how.

LET'S START WITH CONSTRUCTION

We have put a lot of thought into the construction of our Apex Jr. Unlike our competitors and simple power strips, our Apex Jr. is made out of 16 gauge, powder-coated aluminum. It is built to be bullet proof – almost literally!

CONTROLLED OUTLETS

Each of the independently controlled outlets on the Apex Jr. are independently switched and easily carry the current load specified on the label. In fact, we intentional underrate our outlets just to provide that extra level of security

THE DISPLAY MODULE

The Apex Display module is a sleek and compact way for your to interact with the Apex Jr. and control nearly every aspect of your Aquarium. Unlike our competitors’ entry-level controllers, we did not scale down our Display Module for our entry-level product. We feel that the Display Module is a key component to your controller system and you deserve the best…even at the low end.

MECHANICAL, NOT MEMBRANE KEYPAD

Our Display Module uses high-quality, mechanical buttons. So what you say? Well many devices out there make use of what are called capacitive touch pads. This type of membrane button is just fine for your toaster oven, but in a saltwater environment it is highly susceptible to failure. So, even though the cost to us was higher, we went with mechanical buttons for our Display Module ensuring your product a much longer life.

BUILT-IN SPEAKER PLAYS MULTIPLE ALARM TONES

Inside the Apex Display Module is a tiny speaker with a big heart. This speaker will play one of many alarm sounds and tunes that are built into the Apex. These alarms are perfect to alert you of a water leak, over temp, or whatever you condition you desire to program into the Apex.

ADJUSTABLE CONTRAST, HIGH-RESOLUTION GRAPHICS DISPLAY

While some may tout the importance of a color display, we disagree. We believe the most important thing for our customers is ease in readability and size of the display. What good is a color display if it is barely larger than a postage stamp. That is why we went with the backlit graphical display we did. It was the perfect match of function and value for our customers

MULTIPLE DISPLAY MODULE CAPACITY

With the Apex Display Module you are not limited to having just one control panel. With the Apex (as an option) you can add one, two, even three control panels all to the same Apex. And, these are not watered down, smaller versions of the main control panel, all modules will have the same display and functionality.

THE APEX JR. COMES WITH ONE PROBE:

LONG LIFE TEMPERATURE PROBE

Neptune Systems manufactures our own temperature probes in-house. Why? Because we saw the level of early failures due to using off-the-shelf temperature probes like those used in stand-alone digital thermometers as well as those used by other aquarium controllers. These probes often fail because they were never designed to be permanently submersed in saltwater. We custom build our temperature probes using a proprietary method that encapsulates the business end of the probe itself from the corrosive effects of long term saltwater submersion.

EXPANSION CAPABILITIES

With the addition of up to seven other Apex Expansion Modules, the Apex Jr. System can be fitted to add additional outlets, monitor pH, ORP, Salinity, control VorTech pumps , control LEDs, detect leaks and much more.. Go to our Neptunes Probes page to read more about what probes are available to add to the Apex Jr.

Neptune DOS Dosing System Neptune DOS Dosing System

DŌS :: DOSING AND FLUID METERING SYSTEM

A multi-purpose dosing and fluid delivery system of uncompromising quality combined with the simplicity of Apex Fusion software wizards for operations such as:

  • 2-Part Dosing (Calcium and Alkalinity)
  • Other Additives Dosing
  • Automatic Water Changes
  • Micro-Quantity Dosing
  • Delivery of Liquid Foods and Supplements

SO, HERE’S WHAT THE DŌS CAN DO:

The DŌS is a multi-purpose Dosing and Fluid Metering System. The DŌS connects to any Apex via its AquaBus connection. The true versatility and functionality of the DŌS comes to life via the software wizards built into Apex Fusion. This takes dosing to a whole new level in terms of ease of use as well as functionality when compared to standalone dosing systems because the DŌS is part of your Apex ecosystem. Not only can you integrate it into other operations and devices you have configured, but we also will be continuing to expand on its capabilities as time goes on via software updates to Apex Fusion.

2-PART DOSING MADE EASY

The #1 reason people purchase a dosing system for their aquariums is for consistent and easy dosing of 2-part solutions (calcium and alkalinity) to their reef tanks. The most common method for doing this today is to use standalone dosing pumps and run them on a timer using seconds or minutes to determine how much to dose.

This is not only confusing, but also prone to inaccuracy. Everyone knows that when measuring a fluid it is done by volume, not time. Every dosing calculator out there uses volume. So, with the DŌS (and the Apex Fusion interface) you simply enter the amount you want of each part of the additives (one on each pump) and what hours of the day you want it delivered. The DŌS then sets up all the dosing intervals within that time period. When that time interval is finished, the exact volume you set has been delivered. It even automatically chooses the slowest speed necessary for the pump so that it minimizes noise.

WATER CHANGES – THE NEVER ENDING CHORE

Hate doing water changes? – everyone does – so they never get done as often as they should. Not only that, water changes are disruptive to the stability of your system since all of that change is happening at once.

With the DŌS all you do is place your empty vessel and your fresh stock of saltwater under your stand. Then, with the Apex Fusion wizard just tell it amount of water you want to change over what length of time and the hours of the day you want it to happen and it figures it all out for you. It will perform an automatic, continuous water change for you. It gets better. If you have our dual optical water sensing accessory Apex Fusion will send you an email or text message letting you know it is time to change out the jugs. Less time pumping, siphoning, and sloshing water and more time enjoying a great aquarium.

MICRO-DOSING OF ELEMENTS

If you need to dose tiny amounts of a particular solution, element or other fluid (like vodka dosing or Zeovit systems), the DŌS is the perfect solution due to its precision controlled stepper motor. This ability to control pump movement in such a refined manner means that you can dose all the way down to 0.1ml at a time!

HOW IS IT BUILT?

When it comes to dosing, it all starts with the peristaltic pump.First, lets talk about the pump hardware. Be aware that not all dosing pumps are built alike. Well, lets clarify that. Almost all OTHER dosing pumps are alike – But most ALL OTHERS are very different from the DŌS.

Nearly all dosing systems on the market today use a standard, DC brush-driven motor. Why? Because it is economical. This is the same motor you might find in your child’s toy car. We thought that was just not adequate for an aquarium where you might have thousands of dollars invested. So, we spent over a year searching and testing pumps and motors and decided on using a pumps with industrial grade stepper motors in the DŌS – the same type of motors used in high end robotics, 3D printing, and medical equipment. So, why does it matter?

STEPPER MOTORS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Neptune DOS stepper motor single pump

PRECISION

With the stepper motor pumps on the DŌS, you have precise control each time you dose. And, you are guaranteed it will stay calibrated pretty much forever. On the other hand, with the standard DC motor pump found in most dosing systems, it cannot dose small quantities with ongoing accuracy and consistency. They also require ongoing calibration to account for the wear of the motor and the mechanisms. When pumps fall out of calibration, they dose either too much or too little – never a good thing considering an overdose to a tank will often be its demise.

shifter handle

VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS

One of the great features of the stepper motors on the DŌS pumps is that they can be driven at various speeds depending on the purpose for which they are being used. For instance, dosing of vodka may require the slowest possible rotation while a water change use requires a much higher pump speed. The best part is that Apex Fusion wizards automatically select the proper speed based on the use and because of the stepper motor, accuracy is not compromised even at the higher speeds.

DŌS direct drive mechanism

GEARING AND DRIVE MECHANISM

The DŌS uses a direct drive mechanism that will not slip, it will not strip, it will not grind to a halt. On the other hand, many other peristaltic dosing pumps used for aquariums have gears that can (and do) strip. Or, worse yet, some pumps work by using the friction of rubber rollers on the smooth metal motor shaft to make the pump spin. Foreign matter like salt creep, additives, etc. often get into the drive mechanisms of these pumps and make them fail or pump unknown amounts

clock

LIFESPAN

The stepper-motor in the DŌS has a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 5000 hours. Other systems with brush-driven DC motor pumps have lifespans measured of just a few hundred hours of use. This means the pumps on the DŌS may have up to as much as 12x the lifespan of others.

LARGE, SECURE TUBING CONNECTIONS

Leak proof fittings are very important, not just because of the possibility of leaking fluid, but also because the leaking of air into a line would cause the pump not to meter the correct amounts. The pumps on the DŌS have sure-fit compression fittings that are virtually leak-proof. Contrast this to other dosing systems on the market that still use dual-barbed fittings that commonly split the tubing and cause leakage of fluids or air.

pump with connected tubing DOS pump inside diameter and outside diameter

Larger size tubing means that your pump does not have to work nearly as hard – or stay on for longer cycles. The most popular dosing pumps on the market use tube fittings with the tiny diameter of 1.67mm. The DŌS uses much larger tubing and fittings. In fact, at 3.33mm in diameter, the pump on the DŌS can handle 4x the flow of the most common pump style on the market (pictured). This means that your pump (and motor) will run 1/4 the time to pump the same amount of fluid. Less run time means less wear on the pump mechanism, tubing and motor and extends your dosing pump’s life. Larger diameter fittings also eliminate clogging – a common issue when dosing various elements like Calcium, Alkalinity, or Kalkwasser on smaller tubing pumps.

Neptune DOS buttons

SIMPLIFIED INTERFACE

Though nearly all interaction with the DŌS will be done through the graphical user interface on Apex Fusion, there still is a need simplified user interface on the DŌS itself. This is accomplished using a multicolor indicator for each pump to show its status as well a button to be used for priming the pump or for use during a calibration process.

DDR - Dual DOS Reservoir

AQUABUS CONNECTION TO YOUR APEX

The DŌS has an accessory port that will enable it to be connected to an upcoming optional accessories like the DDR – Dual DŌS Reservoir. This accessory has two separate 2-liter cylinders for holding your additives. It also has optical sensors at the bottom that tell the Apex when it is time to refill and it then can send you an email or text alert. Another optional accessory will be a set of two optical level sensors you can install in the water change vessel (jug/rubbermaid/brute) of your choice.

Apex Fusion Neptune interface

ACCESSORY PORT

The DŌS easily connects to your existing Apex System via an AquaBus cable. All configuration and control of your DŌS is done through the Apex Fusion interface on your phone, tablet, or computer from at home or anywhere in the world! And, because there are two AquaBus connections, you can daisy-chain up to 10 DŌS systems together.

QUIET OPERATION

We understand that aquariums are supposed to be serene. And noisy pumps often ruin that mood. So our engineering team has taken extensive steps both in how the pump operates as well as the enclosure design to ensure that the DŌS system is one of (if not) the quietest dosing systems on the market for the fluid volumes it delivers.

no sound icon

STYLISH YET FUNCTIONAL DESIGN

The DŌS was designed to compliment your aquarium – not just be a box that holds pumps. Its attractive enclosure has the pumps rotated at an outward angle to allow for the tubing to be routed with no chance of kinking, even when placed on a shelf. The DŌS are also designed for stacking and they can be daisy-chained together via the AquaBus ports.

Even when stacked, all tubing can be easily routed kink-free. For those that prefer a wall mount, the DŌS has easy to use slots in the back so you can attach it to a wall or to the inside of your aquarium cabinet. With the exterior design, component selection, and software functionality, the DŌS communicates how much total effort we have put into this product to raise the bar not only for dosing systems, but for premium aquarium products overall.

IT DOESN’T GET EASIER THAN THIS!

In a nutshell using the DŌS is as simple as telling the Apex Fusion DŌS wizard how much fluid (in ml) you want to pump, and over what time you would like it to happen. The DŌS takes it from there and figures out what speed to run the pump and the exact amount of fluid will be dispensed over that timeframe.

COMPLETE AQUARIUM MONITORING RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX

The Apex Base Unit is equipped with the following monitoring ports:

  • Temperature Port
  • pH Port
  • pH/ORP Port (can be used for either – a feature unique to the Apex)
  • 6 – I/O switch inputs (for use with leak detectors, door switches, feed buttons, ATO, etc.)

LET’S TALK ABOUT A LITTLE THING CALLED GALVANIC ISOLATION

This is a topic other controller companies like to avoid. Why? Because not all monitoring ports are created equal. Galvanic Isolation is key to getting accurate readings on pH, Temp, ORP, and Conductivity. Some controllers either do not do it well (they are still figuring it out) or possibly not at all.

So what is Galvanic isolation? Well, the tech-answer is that it’s where two or more electric circuits must communicate, but their grounds may be at different potentials. It is an effective method of breaking ground loops by preventing unwanted current from flowing between two units sharing a ground conductor.

Now of course that is all geek-speak to most of us so let’s just put it this way: on a controller without galvanic isolation, your readings of pH, Temperature, ReDox (ORP), Conductivity/Salinity, etc. will be completely inaccurate. Of course it costs us more to add this circuitry into the Apex, but what good is a controller if it doesn’t give you accurate readings?

LED DIMMING AND TUNZE PUMP CONTROL

The Apex Base Unit comes standard with four channels of 0-10V control. These outputs are controlled in the Apex software and are most commonly used for LED dimming or Tunze speed control pumps.

By using one of our optionally available cables, you can connect any Apex Ready 0-10V device to these ports. This means you can do cool things like have your LED lights ramp up and down to simulate sunrise and sunset!

They can also be used for various DIY purposes like controlling the dimming level on Meanwell LED drivers. Should you need additional channels of 0-10V control, no problem, simply purchase our VDM module and get four more – and also get a connection for Apex Ready+ LEDs!

EXTERNAL 12V POWER CAPABILITY – UPS READY

The Apex Base Unit comes with an external 12V power input. With an optionally available wall transformer and a second Energy Bar, this enables you to configure your Apex for power-outage mode.

You just plug the 12V transformer into your Apex and then into a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) along with your extra Energy Bar. You then plug a powerhead and an air pump with stone into this Energy Bar. If the power should ever go down, your Apex will sense the problem, and will activate the powerhead and air stone potentially saving the day for your fish and corals!

THE ENERGY BAR – SO MUCH MORE THAN A POWER STRIP!

Here’s how.

LET'S START WITH CONSTRUCTION

CONTROLLED OUTLETS

Each of the independently controlled outlets on the Energy Bar are independently switched and easily carry the current load specified on the label. In fact, we intentional underrate our outlets just to provide that extra level of security. So, depending on which Energy Bar you purchase, each outlet is rated from 5A to 10A at 120V AC or 8A on our 240V European model.

(Not supported on Energy Bar 6)

POWER FAILURE DETECTION AND COMMUNICATION ERROR PROTECTION

THE DISPLAY MODULE

The Apex Display module is a sleek and compact way for your to interact with the Apex Base Unit and control nearly every aspect of your aquarium.

THE APEX SYSTEM COMES WITH TWO PROBES:

LONG LIFE TEMPERATURE PROBE

Neptune Systems manufactures our own temperature probes in-house. Why? Because we saw the level of early failures due to using off-the-shelf temperature probes like those used in stand-alone digital thermometers as well as those used by other aquarium controllers. These probes often fail because they were never designed to be permanently submersed in saltwater. We custom build our temperature probes using a proprietary method that encapsulates the business end of the probe itself from the corrosive effects of long term saltwater submersion.

STANDARD GRADE pH PROBE

We tested many probes until we finally selected an manufacturer that would provide long life as well as consistent and accurate performance. We do not cut corners on the probes we supply. They may cost a little more than the bargain-basement probes you might see out on the open market, but there is a difference.

OTHER PROBES AVAILABLE

The Apex System can be fitted with two pH probes or one pH Probe and one ORP (Redox) probe. Go to our Neptunes Probes page to read more about what probes are available to add to your Apex System.
